Club FAQ's
Can I keep up with the group of an advanced ride?
Do I need to be a member to ride with the club?
What are the responsibilities of members?
When was the club created? The club was formed October of 2005, by Carole Becic, Dave Nannen, Jerry Wilke & Trudy Woksa.
How are officials elected? Every January there will be an annual meeting asking for volunteers to be on the board, these board members elect officials as needed. For 2006 we have five board members (see the contact info page for more on specific board members).
What are club rides like? We have two types of rides, fast paced rides (Buffalo riders-(16-20 average speed) and slower paced rides which average 10 to 15 mph. Buffalo riders meet on Sunday mornings and usually ride from 65 to 100 miles in the summer, less miles as the weather gets cold and in the spring. The Clydesdales meet occasionally and don't have a set schedule. Rides are updated on the scheduled rides page. We also have Time Trials that we run from April to September. It is an individual timed race, you can watch your progress over the summer. For any questions about these rides, email: blairbikeclub@yahoo.com.
Can I keep up with the group ride? The Rides are geared towards an average speed, so if you know how fast you normally go, you can gage which group to attend for a club ride. We are a small friendly group and have no problems keeping track of everyone; we will not leave anyone behind.
Do I need to be a member to ride with the club? We certainly encourage membership, as it helps with our club expenses, but is certainly not required. We especially encourage you to ride a couple of rides to see if it reaches your expectations of what a bicycle club should. An advantage to being a member is the email notices that non-members are not privy to (and don't forget the secret hand shake). These emails include rides that are not posted for one reason or another and invitations to non ride events, etc. Non-members are required to sign a liability waiver form, please notify ahead of time that you are attending a ride by emailing blairbikeclub@yahoo.com.
How do I join the Club? Go to the membership form web page and copy the form. Fill out and sign and mail with your check written to Blair Bike Club to the address at the bottom of page 2. Your name will be added to our email list. BBC membership costs are: $15 Individual, $20 Family per year.
What are the responsibilities of members? There are no responsibilities for members. You do not have to attend every ride, or any number of rides. The rides are available to you when you desire to ride. Members are required to wear certified bicycle helmets and follow traffic laws.
If you have a question that is not answered on this page, please contact one of the board members and we will be happy to find an answer to your question.
